PROFESSOR DR. NG KWAN HOONG RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS MARIE SKLODOWSKA-CURIE AWARD

Professor Dr. Ng Kwan Hoong from the Department of Biomedical Imaging, Faculty of Medicine has been proudly named the recipient of the highest rank and most prestigious award in medical physics – the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Award. The award was bestowed by the International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP) based in the United Kingdom. Prof. Ng is also the first scientist from a developing country to be honoured with the award.

The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Award is established to honor scientists who have distinguished themselves by their contributions in: 

  • education and training of medical physicists, medical students, medical residents, and allied health personnel;
  • advancement of medical physics knowledge based upon independent original research and/or development; and 
  • advancement of the medical physics profession in the IOMP adhering national and international organizations.

The previous recipients of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Award are established and well-known scientists: Prof. John R Cameron from USA (2000), Prof. Andree Dutreix from France (2003), Prof. John R Cunningham from Canada (2006), Prof. Azam Niroomand-Rad from USA (2009), Prof. Charles A Mistretta from USA (2012), and Prof. Colin Orton from USA (2015).
