UM WELCOMES GRAB’S INITIATIVE TO SUPPORT STUDENT COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT THROUGH GRABVARSITY
The University of Malaya (UM) has recently established a connection with Grab Malaysia that offers excellent opportunity to develop campus facilities and infrastructure to a greater standard through the launch of GrabVarsity on 13 March 2018 at the UM Art Gallery.
Designed for students from institutions of higher learning, GrabVarsity is a first-of-its-kind programme in Malaysia that addresses the transportation needs of students, and looks at providing lifestyle benefits and rewards for the student community. It does this while also offering opportunities for them to glean real-life work experience.
Present to launch the programme were Minister of Higher Education, YB Dato’ Seri Haji Idris bin Jusoh; and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International) YBhg. Dato’ Professor Dr. Awang Bulgiba Awang Mahmud who represents the Vice-Chancellor, University of Malaya; together with Country Head, Grab Malaysia, Mr. Sean Goh, and Head of Business Development, Grab Malaysia, Mr. Tan Jiong Jian.
At the launch, YBhg. Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rahim Hashim, Vice Chancellor of UM, who was represented by YBhg. Dato’ Professor Dr. Awang Bulgiba Awang Mahmud, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International) said “As one of the region’s leading educational institutions, we have always been among the forerunners in developing the next generation of Malaysian thinkers. A creative, safe and accessible learning space is critical for our students, faculty and staff, and GrabVarsity is definitely a catalyst for further growth of the university, our students, and the country as our alumni take their place in the world.”
GrabVarsity is currently available in UM, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) and University Malaysia Perlis (UNIMAP).
