Master of Facilities & Maintenance Management

The programme aims to produce professional facilities management graduates who are critical and innovative in FM development both in managerial and technological aspects within local and global contexts.

The programme seeks to develop competent facilities managers that are in control for both strategic and operational management of services and processes that support the core business of an organisation. This product will ensure that an organisation has the most productive working environment for their activities, utilise by its employees and their business community at large.

The programme also offers a scientific approach to facilities managers to innovate facilities management delivery, by focusing on using best business practice to optimise resources through soft and hard aspect of facilities management provisions.

Career Opportunity

Facilities managers deal with a diverse range of responsibilities, which are dependent on the structure and size of the organisation. They are employed in public and private sectors, as well as other industries locally and globally. The diversity of the work may be reflected in different job titles such as operations, estates, technical services, and asset or property manager.

Facilities managers are involved in both strategic planning and day-to-day operations, particularly in relation to buildings and business premises. Likely areas of responsibility include the following:

  • procurement and contract management;
  • building and grounds maintenance;
  • utilities and communications infrastructure;
  • space management.
  • cleaning;
  • catering and vending;
  • environmental sustainability, health and safety;
  • security;
  • helpdesking
Course Structure

The minimum duration of the programme is two (2) semesters + one (1) special semester or one (1) year and the maximum duration is eight (8) semesters or four (4) years.

Entry Requirement

Local applicants are required to have :

  • Bachelor of Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Estate Management, Science, Architecture or equivalent qualification with a CGPA of 3.00 and above; or
  • Bachelor of Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Estate Management, Science Architecture or equivalent qualification with a CGPA of less than 3.00, at least one (1) year of relevant working experience; or
  • Professional qualification from a recognized professional body; or
  • Other qualifications approved by the Senate from time to time or
  • Have any other qualifications recognized by the Malaysian government's move and approved by the University Senate.

International applicants are required to have:

  • Have any other qualifications recognized by the Malaysian Government and approved by the University Malaya Senate. And
  • Required to have a minimum IELTS band score of 6.0 or TOEFL 550 if their first degree obtained from a university where English is not the medium of instruction.
  • International Candidates are also required to attend and complete satisfactorily the Bahasa Malaysia course by the University before graduation.
Intake Schedule

Application for this programme has two intakes per year, in February and in September.

  2. For coursework programmes, fees for Research Report have to be paid as follows: Semester  1 (100%), Semester 2 (no charges) and Semester 3 (50% onwards)
