Accredited by Malaysia Board of Architects (LAM) - Part II Validated by Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) - Part 2 • The UM Master of Architecture is a leading Part II programme in Malaysia which aims to produce excellent Graduate Architects who are innovative, confident and intelligent. Besides delving into architectural design projects, students are also able to pursue their interests in highly specialised elective courses; AND • Our programme is one out of only two programmes that are accredited by LAM and validated by RIBA in Malaysia.

The programme is an upgrade of the Bachelor of Architecture which has received the following local accreditation and international validation by Malaysian Board of Architecture (LAM): Part II and Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA): Part II

This qualifications will enable them to work as Graduate Architects at government agencies or private companies, building contractors or develops, interior or landscape designers, university lecturers (with PhD) or Professional Architects (with LAM/RIBA Part III qualification).

PROGRAMME DURATION 

Minimum : 2 years (4 Semesters and 1 Special Semester) 
Maximum : 4 years (8 Semesters)

Non-University of Malaya Graduates

  • Bachelor of Science in Architecture from a recognized university with a CGPA of at least 3.00 or equivalent; OR
     
  • Bachelor of Science in Architecture from a recognized university with a CGPA of 2.70 to 2.99
    Can be considered if it meets one (1) of the following criteria:
    • Have at least one (1) year of work experience in related field; OR
    • Produce publications in related fields; OR
    • scholarship recipient; OR
    • A Malaysian Government agency personnel; OR
    • Passed an interview; OR
    • Pass Special Assessment.
       
  • Bachelor of Science in Architecture from a recognized university with a CGPA of 2.50 to 2.69.
    Can be considered if it meets  two (2) of the following criteria :
    • Have at least one (1) year of work experience in related field; OR
    • Produce publications in related fields; OR
    • scholarship recipient; OR
    • A Malaysian Government agency personnel; OR
    • Passed an interview; OR
    • Pass Special Assessment.
       
  • Bachelor of Science in Architecture from a recognized university with a CGPA of 2.00 to 2.49.
    Can be considered if it candidates passed an interview by the Faculty and meets  one (1) of the following criteria:
    • Have at least one (5) five year of work experience in related field; OR
    • Produce one (1) publication in related fields; OR
    • Pass Special Assessment.
       

University of Malaya Graduates (UM Alumni) 

  • Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Malaya with a CGPA of at least 3.00 or equivalent; OR
     
  • Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Malaya with a CGPA of 2.70 to 2.99; OR
     
  • Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Malaya with a CGPA of 2.50 to 2.69
    Can be considered if it meets one (1) of the following criteria:
    • Have at least one (1) year of work experience in related field; OR
    • Produce publications in related fields; OR
    • scholarship recipient; OR
    • A Malaysian Government agency personnel; OR
    •  Passed an interview; OR
    • Pass Special Assessment. 
       
  • Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Malaya with a CGPA of 2.00 to 2.49
    Can be considered if it meets  one (1) of the following criteria:
    • Have at least five (5) years of work experience in related field; OR
    • Produce one (1) publication in related fields; OR
    • scholarship recipient; OR
    • A Malaysian Government agency personnel; OR
    • Passed an interview; OR
    • Pass Special Assessment.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Additional requirements for candidates who is applying for the Master of Architecture (by Coursework):

  • Meet the requirements of Part I of the Board of Architects Malaysia (LAM); AND
  • Pass the technical test and portfolio interview.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE

  • A band 5.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic);  or
  • A score of 550 paper based total, a score of 213 for computer-based total or a  score of 80 for internet-based total for Test of English as a Foreign Language  (TOEFL).; or
  • Band 4 and above in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET); or
  • A score of 42 and above in the Pearson Test of Academic English (PTE Academic); or
  • A Grade C and above in English for General Certificate of Education (A Level), University of Cambridge; or
  • A Grade C and above in the Cambridge Assessment English: First (FCE); or
  • A Grade C and above in the Cambridge Assessment English: Advanced (CAE); or
  • A Grade C and above in the Cambridge Assessment English: Proficiency (CPE).

BAHASA MALAYSIA REQUIREMENT

  • For Malaysian citizen, candidate shall be required to possess at least a Pass in Bahasa Melayu or Bahasa Malaysia at the level of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or a Level III in Sijil Kecekapan Bahasa Malaysia or a Level III in the Sijil Intensif Bahasa Malaysia of the University or an equivalent level before being conferred the Degree.
  • International candidate shall be required to attend at a satisfactory level a Bahasa Malaysia course that is conducted by the University before being conferred the Degree. However candidate can be exempted from taking the Bahasa Malaysia course if they possesses at least a Pass in Bahasa Melayu or Bahasa Malaysia at the level of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia or Level III in Sijil Kecekapan Bahasa Malaysia or Level II in the Sijil Intensif Bahasa Malaysia of the University or a Bahasa Malaysia course recognised by the University.
